casa ETHEL venice

ETHEL, a true centenarian [b.1910], was definitely in need of a serious make/OVER!!! ETHEL, over the years, was kept intact mostly by prayers, duct tape and luck. from her original summer residences in the 20's through the groovy hippie 60's and then to the surf 80's, this old girl was in need of some serious rehab. but good bones she had and our clients gave the m[E] squad the go ahead to do our work. ETHEL's original interior layout was comprised of small squares...now, no more. we let our client take the first swing at opening up the living room to one nice sized area. and by eliminating the gas heaters and replacing with energy efficient ceramic, flat, wall mount units the l.r. space, graciously, now welcomes furniture. the kitchens were next..again opening the space by eliminating a pantry dividing wall, we decided to design and build a galley style kitchen and opening the opposite wall to receive french doors, leading onto a deck, increasing the viable, livable space. the bathrooms-OUCH. and here a picture[s] tells the story...now, chic, fitted/tailored, lit & with ample storage! the back unit bedroom, with its low/no light feature, was opened up with a pair of french doors & a deck, perfect for some relaxation time or that laptop continuum.
m[E] always uses colors from nature for the exterior work. we chose a yellow quartz for ETHEL'S inspiration.
